"The Grey People" & "Graphic" Trailers released!
News / Blog / D.L. Watson

After working on Graphic for several weeks, Nick and I are proud to release the first official trailer. It shows you the pure-awesome effects work by yours truly and leaves you begging to know what Nick's intriguing story is all about.

I think what makes this film so unique, besides the look of it, is that its one of the few films to combine live-action elements with the software Moviestorm (a consumer animation program). As a visualfx artist, I choose to do this mainly because Moviestorm's easy to use interface and quick prop placement made it quick to create the environments, and render time is near real-time.

Its Summer Time!
News / Blog / D.L. Watson

Its been a while since I've written a blog and because I know everyone is dying to hear about my life, I wont make you wait any longer.

Well, like the title says, summer has finally arrived. Nearly 3/4 of this month was consumed in rain and overcast skies. I'm not sure if the recent volcanic activity from Iceland had anything to do with it, but the weather certainly didn't get the memo that it was June.

Official "Transcend" Teaser Trailer!
News / Blog / D.L. Watson

My day job is quite similar to my hobby - I make films! Whether its directing, writing, producing, visualfx, or sound design - I'm probably doing it. Now before you get all excited - I do this independently. No - I'm not famous or make money at it, in fact - more people know me more for my machinima work then my live-action.

Nonetheless, even though Machinima is quite fun - I think live-action is just the best way to go when making films. You can do it cheap and you don't have to worry about blocky shadows or robotic animations. :P

Last year, my buddy and I short film called "Transcend". Back then, he and I were running a small production company called Moonlight Pictures and we'd been offered by The Geek Media to send them a DVD of our stuff and they would hand it out to this Star Trek convention in Salt Lake City.

Well, while we loved the opportunity, we thought - we don't have a sci-fi film. So...Nick came back to me with this time-travel concept that was very unique due to its ending. So, under the wire, we started production right away on it. We hired local theater talent Erika Antonsen as the lead and Nick and I assembled the chair.
